Infectious Disease
Imprime PGG was originally developed in the 1990s as a stand-alone drug for prophylactic use to prevent hospital hospital-acquired surgical infections. In a completed Phase III study, the drug failed to meet its clinical endpoints. Since acquiring the technology, Biothera has further elucidated the complete mechanism of action of Imprime PGG. Based on this new understanding, a new optimal dose range and co-administration with existing antibiotics has the potential to significantly improve the standard of care for numerous infectious diseases.
Clinical Program
The original clinical program for Imprime PGG was designed to examine its safety and efficacy in patients at high risk for infection, including patients who were subject to infection following surgical procedures (thoracoabdominal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease surgery, major open gastrointestinal surgery). In the course of the program, a total of nine clinical studies were completed related to the Infectious Disease indication.
Biothera is seeking a licensing partner to continue the development of infectious disease applications.
