Daniel Conners
President
Mr. Conners founded the company in 1997 and has led the company's development at every stage. His vision, entrepreneurial drive and experience have guided the company's evolution. Mr. Conners previously founded and managed Techtel, the first digital wireless communication company in Ukraine and Metropolitan Investment Group, Inc., a private investment firm.
Steven Karel
Chief Operating Officer, Research & Technology
Mr. Karel is responsible for research and technology development at Biothera. He has been with Biothera since its founding and has been key to the development of the company’s business strategy. He previously served as CFO and COO at several service and technology companies and managed start-up and development stage businesses. Mr. Karel began his career as a CPA with KPMG.
Myra Patchen, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer
Dr. Patchen is responsible for research and development and new technology developments at Biothera. Her previous positions include Chief Executive Officer of Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Director, Preclinical Pharmacology at Alpha-Beta Technology, Inc., and Project Manager at the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute. Dr. Patchen has a B.S. and M.S. in Biology from Bowling Green State University and a Ph.D. in Immunology from the University of Texas, Houston. Dr. Patchen joined Biothera in 2005.
Patricia Molloy, M.D., Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Molloy is responsible for the clinical development of Imprime PGG®. She has more than 20 years of research experience with extensive late stage clinical development
expertise in oncology, neurology and pediatrics. She was most recently Vice President, Global Medical Affairs and Strategic Consulting, for Premier Research Group. Previously Dr. Molloy held senior positions in oncology drug development and research at Cephalon, ImClone Systems, and Allergan. Dr. Molloy is a board certified neurologist with a fellowship in neuro-oncology. She received her doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
William Grossman, M.D., Ph.D.
Senior Vice President, Research & Development
Dr. Grossman directs nonclinical immunology/biology research at Biothera. Previously, he was the North American Medical Director for Clinical & Medical Affairs Biotherapeutics/Immunology at Baxter, and was a Medical Director for Merck Oncology. Dr. Grossman is a clinical oncologist & immunologist who received his M.D. / Ph.D. from Washington University School of Medicine and founded the Jeffrey Modell Diagnostic Center for Primary Immunodeficiencies at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. Dr. Grossman joined Biothera in 2011.
Steve Smith
Vice President, Business Development
Mr. Smith identifies and develops contacts with pharmaceutical and biotech companies that are potential licensors of Biothera’s technologies. He has 10 years of R&D experience with Amersham International and spent another decade in Europe as Vice President of Sigma Aldrich Corp. Mr. Smith joined Biothera in 2010.
Andrew Magee, Ph.D.
Vice President, Chemistry
Dr. Magee directs chemistry research for Biothera. He was Director of Chemistry at The Althexis Company Inc. and earlier at Alpha-Beta Technology, Inc. Dr. Magee earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Minnesota and an MBA at Babson College. Dr. Magee joined Biothera in 2006.
Michael Cady
Vice President, Pharmaceutical Operations
Mr. Cady is responsible for manufacturing for both the Pharmaceutical Group’s clinical trial materials and Healthcare Group’s branded ingredients. Previously, Mr. Cady was a founder of GalaGen, Inc. and served as its Vice President of Manufacturing and Engineering. Before that he was a founder and Director of Operations of Procor Technologies. Mr. Cady joined Biothera in 2002.
Michele Gargano, MSc
Vice President, Clinical Development
Ms. Gargano is responsible for design and management of Biothera’s clinical trials for all of its pharmaceutical compounds. Before joining Biothera, she was director of global product development for Sucampo Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Ms. Gargano joined Biothera in 2005.
